Josef Vissarionovich Stalin (* 1878 - † 1953) was a Soviet politician of Georgian origin and dictator of the Soviet Union from 1927 to 1953. He was born as Iosseb Bessarionis dse Dschughashvili. He adopted the battle name Stalin, which, according to various interpretations, stands for “the steel one” in 1912. From 1922 to 1953 he was General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU), from 1941 Chairman of the Council of People's Commissars (head of government), from 1946 Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR and from 1941 to 1945 Supreme Commander of the Red Army - the “Generalissimo” (C) Wikipedia
