K&C’s first THREE Naval A6M ‘Zeroes’ are long sold out but still we have collectors who ‘want’ that pale grey, black nose ‘classic’ naval aircraft. This fourth IJN ‘Zero’ belongs to the IJN Carrier Zuikaku, flown by Petty Officer 1st Class Tetsuzo Iwamoto, as part of the Combat Air Patrol over the Task Force during the Pearl Harbor operation. Petty Officer 1st Class Iwamoto already had fourteen ‘kills’ claimed over China by 7 December 1941 and was ultimately credited with eighty victories by the end of World War Two and flew on ‘Combat Air Patrol’ above the Japanese Fleet as it released all of its attack aircraft on an unsuspecting Pearl Harbor on that fateful morning of 7 December, 1941. Lieut J.G. Tetsuzo Iwamoto, Imperial Japanese Navy
Retired: YES Description:Another of the Imperial Navy’s Leading Air Aces. Iwamoto first flew in combat in China in 1938 and was credited there with 14 victories. Subsequently, he flew A6M Zeroes from the IJN Carrier “ Zuikaku” beginning in December 1941 until May 1942, taking part in “The Battle of the Coral Sea”. In mid 1943 Iwamoto was sent to fly from Rabaul, New Britain where he remained until recall to help defend the Japanese home islands in mid 1944. By the end of the war he was credited with 94 “Kills” ... His own personal diary accounted for just over 200. Our figure shows him checking his watch while holding a flight map and getting ready to climb aboard his “Zero”.
Lieut Hiroyoshi Nishizawa, Imperial Japanese Navy
Retired: YES Description:Possibly Japan’s most successful Naval aviator. He claimed 87 enemy victories ... Some sources even claim over 100! Early in 1942 he was flying over New Guinea before being moved to Rabaul and operating against the Americans who had just landed on Guadalcanal. In his first encounter he shot down two U.S. Navy “Wildcats” ...more were to follow. By November 1942 his score stood at 40. After a training tour back in Japan he returned to active service in mid 1943 and by 1944 was flying in the Philippines. Sadly for him, he was shot down and killed while flying as a passenger in a transport aircraft over Mindoro Island on 26 October, 1944.

Description:
K&C’s first major release of a Japanese fighter aircraft and an iconic one at that! At the time of the attack on Pearl Harbor the Japanese Navy “ZERO” was, without doubt, the finest carrier-borne aircraft in the world. Fast, light and packing a punch from 2 x machine guns plus 2 x cannon it literally flew rings around its opponents. Our first “ZERO” is in the markings of Lt.Saburo Shindo flying off the Imperial Japanese Navy carrier “Akagi”...It was him who announced “Tora! Tora! Tora!” over Pearl Harbor to signal the surprise attack. This K&C aircraft includes a figure of Shindo in the cockpit of his aircraft “saluting” as he prepares to fly off the carrier on his historic mission.

Saburo Sakai’s Zero
Edition Size: 150 Retired: YES Description:Petty officer later Lieutenant Sakai was an Imperial Japanese Navy “ace” who took part in the attack on the Philippines in the days immediately after Pearl Harbor. Having already seen combat in the war in China Sakai was a battle-hardened veteran fighter pilot when he attacked Clark Field, the principal U.S. air base in the Philippine Islands. Through the course of the Pacific War he fought and flew in many of the principal theatres of operations and continually added to his tally of enemy “Kills”. Officially, Sakai was credited with 28 aerial victories although one of his biographies claims up to 64 “Kills”..! Our model shows one of Saburo Sakai’s “Zeros” as it appeared in 1942 complete with a diagonal blue stripe and the code “V103” on the tail plane. A standing figure of Sakai is also included with this aircraft. Just 150 of this special set are being released.

Retired: YES Description:A standing, saluting version of the “architect” of the Pearl Harbor attack. Here, he wears the “winter” version of the senior Naval officers’ uniform.
The Land-Based ZERO
Edition Size: 250 Retired: YES Description:This is K&C’s 4th version of Japan’s best known fighter aircraft ... and the most popular. The green and black colour scheme is typical of the island –based A6M’s. As you can see the weathered and “battle-weary” ZERO has been exposed to the worst elements of the hot and humid climate of the South Pacific. However, the Zero was still, in the right hands, a formidable foe and packed a powerful punch. But it’s days were numbered soon bigger, better and more powerful opponents would take to the skies over the Pacific and this time the outcome would be very different ...
