Product information "Coldstream Guard on Guard Duty"
Raised in 1650 on the orders of Oliver Cromwell the Coldstream Guards
wear red plumes on the right side of their bearskins and their tunic
buttons are spaced in pairs.
Our K&C Guardsman of 1935 still wears the uniform that is familiar
to tourists to London today. However he also wears the by-then obsolete
“Slade-Wallace” fighting order bleached in white for ceremonial duties
and his grey greatcoat folded neatly as a backpack to the rear.
His rifle is the .303 SMLE (Short Magazine Lee Enfield) fitted with the
bayonet. This is the same weapon all British and Empire Forces used in
both World Wars.

This figure pays tribute to one of the world’s greatest entertainers and
first time true movie stars… Charlie Chaplin.
The “Little Tramp” rose to fame during the darkest days the First World
War and although not serving in the military ensured his films were
provided free-of-charge for soldiers’ entertainment.
His popularity was so great that even the Germans knew of him.
Here we see a German “Fritz” impersonating Charlie for the amusement of
their comrades somewhere behind the lines. Proving once more that humour
is universal and crosses borders… seas… and even trenches!

Adolf and Blondi It was often said that Hitler loved animals more than people... perhaps there is more than a shade of truth in that.During the First World War, “Corporal Hitler’s” best friend and most loyal companion was a stray mongrel he adopted while serving in the trenches on the Western Front.‘Blondi’ was Hitler’s German Shepherd given as a gift to the Fuhrer by his Chief of the Nazi Party Chancellery, Martin Bormann in 1941.The dog stayed loyally by Hitler’s side for the remainder of the war and eventually moved into the Berlin Fuhrerbunker located under the garden of the Reich Chancellery in January 1945.Hitler was extremely fond of ‘Blondi’ and she featured in many press photographs showing the Fuhrer as a dedicated and kind ‘animal lover’.The dog also met the same fate as her master when, in order to test the special cyanide capsules all top Nazis carried, Hitler ordered his doctor to test the potency of a capsule on his pet dog. This was done and ‘Blondi’ died as a result. Our ‘Adolf & Blondi’ set shows dog and master in other times... enjoying a walk in the Bavarian Alps near his mountain retreat.
